USCIS Online Account Number: What It Is and Where USCIS Says to Find It
The USCIS Online Account Number (OAN) is a unique identification number issued by the USCIS online filing system account, according to the USCIS glossary, and the Instructions for Form I-90 say a person only has one after filing a form that has a receipt number beginning with IOE. When we checked on November 2, 2026, neither document gave the number’s length.

What USCIS says the OAN is
The USCIS glossary entry reads:
“Your USCIS Online Account Number (OAN) is a unique identification number issued by the USCIS online filing system account. You should have 1 account number for all cases submitted.”
The Instructions for Form I-90 (edition 01/20/25) add where the number is and when a person has one:
“Item Number 2. USCIS Online Account Number. You will only have a USCIS Online Account Number (OAN) if you previously filed a form that has a receipt number that begins with IOE. If you filed the form online, you can find your OAN in your account profile. If you mailed us the form, you can find your OAN at the top of the Account Access Notice we sent you. If you do not have a receipt number that begins with IOE, you do not have an OAN. The OAN is not the same as an A-Number.”
Neither the USCIS glossary entry nor the Instructions for Form I-90 (Item Number 2) says how many digits or characters an Online Account Number has.
The OAN and the account log-in
The How to Create a USCIS Online Account page (Last Reviewed/Updated 07/29/2024) says:
“You will use your email address to create and log in to your USCIS online account.”
“Do not create a shared account with anyone. Your USCIS online account is only for you.”
The How to Create a USCIS Online Account page names the email address as what you use to log in and does not mention the Online Account Number.
Paper-filed cases and the account
Two USCIS pages describe adding a paper-filed case to an online account. The create-account page says:
“If you did not file your case online but have a receipt number that begins with “IOE” and the Online Access Code you received on your USCIS Account Access Notice, you can add the case to your account and be able to see case status and history, send secure messages, view notices, upload additional evidence, and respond to Requests for Evidence.”
The Contact Center page (Last Reviewed/Updated 10/13/2026) says:
“If you submitted a paper form and your receipt number begins with other letters, you can create an online account and add your paper-filed case to receive automatic case alerts.”
