USCIS Biometrics Appointment: The Notice, What to Bring and Rescheduling
After a filing, USCIS schedules a biometric services appointment at a local Application Support Center (ASC) when it needs fingerprints, a photograph or a signature, and the appointment notice, Form I-797C, gives the date, time and location, according to USCIS. When we checked on November 2, 2026, the USCIS biometrics page was dated 04/30/2026.

The appointment notice
The USCIS page Preparing for Your Biometric Services Appointment says:
“After you file your application, petition, or request, if you need to provide your fingerprints, photograph, or signature, we will schedule your biometric services appointment at a local Application Support Center (ASC).”
“Your appointment notice (Form I-797C, Notice of Action) will include the date, time, and location for your ASC appointment.”
What USCIS says to bring
“Your notice will provide specific instructions on what you should bring to your ASC appointment.”
You must also bring:
Your ASC appointment notice (Form I-797C). If you received multiple biometrics appointment notices, please bring all notices to your appointment at the application support center; and
Valid photo identification (such as your Green Card, passport, or driver’s license)
The same page adds a weapons rule:
“Federal law prohibits weapons like firearms, knives, pepper spray and ammunition at any USCIS facility.”
Rescheduling: two USCIS pages, two dates
The biometrics page (04/30/2026) says:
“If you are unable to attend your scheduled biometric services appointment for good cause, you may request to reschedule your appointment through your USCIS online account. You must make your request before the date and time of the original appointment, and you must establish good cause for rescheduling.”
“Requests to reschedule through your USCIS online account must be made at least 12 hours before your scheduled appointment time. If your request to reschedule your biometric services appointment is less than 12 hours from your appointment time or you have missed your scheduled appointment, please call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833) or chat with Emma, our computer-generated virtual assistant.”
“If you fail to request to reschedule before your existing appointment or fail to establish good cause, USCIS may consider your application, petition, or request abandoned and it may be denied.”
The Contact Center page (Last Reviewed/Updated 10/13/2026) says:
“You can reschedule most requests for biometric services appointments through a USCIS online account. You cannot reschedule an appointment that already has been rescheduled 2 or more times, is within 12 hours of the scheduled time, or that has already passed. If you cannot reschedule your biometrics appointment online, you must call the Contact Center to reschedule your appointment.”
| Limit | Biometrics page (04/30/2026) | Contact Center page (10/13/2026) |

The Preparing for Your Biometric Services Appointment page states the 12-hour rule and does not mention a limit on how many times an appointment can be rescheduled.
Rescheduling to a different ASC is covered on the biometrics page:
“If you wish to attend your appointment at a different ASC than your originally scheduled appointment, you must also request to reschedule in advance of your appointment, and select the different ASC location.”
“However, if you appear at an ASC other than the one listed on your appointment notice without having rescheduled, your appointment will not be processed due to scheduling and security compliance requirements.”
Signature age and name changes
“If you are 14 years old or older, you must provide a signature on an application, petition, or request filed with USCIS.”
“We cannot change your name or other personal information during your ASC appointment.”
