Military Time Chart: 24-Hour Conversion Table
To read this chart, find the four-digit time and read the AM/PM time beside it: from 0100 to 1159 the hour stays the same with AM, and from 1300 to 2359 you subtract 12 from the hour and add PM. This chart shows midnight (12:00 AM) as 0000 and noon (12:00 PM) as 1200. To convert a single time, use the military time converter.

- AM to 24-hour: keep the hour and minutes, with a leading zero if the hour is a single digit (9:30 AM is 0930). 12:xx AM becomes 00xx.
- PM to 24-hour: add 12 to the hour (4:15 PM is 1615). 12:xx PM stays 12xx.
- 24-hour to AM/PM: for 1300 and later, subtract 12 from the hour and add PM (2145 is 9:45 PM).

Midnight: 0000 and 2400
Army Regulation 25–50, paragraph 1–26, gives the range 0001 to 2400, so 2400 is inside that range and 0000 is not. The paragraph says nothing more about midnight. It applies the four-digit format to memorandums: “Civilian time is used when writing letters. Military time is used for memorandums.” This page shows midnight as 0000 as its own display choice, not taken from AR 25–50. The converter accepts 2400 and shows it as 12:00 AM.

What Army Regulation 25–50 says
Army Regulation 25–50 is the Army's regulation on preparing correspondence. It says:
Military time will be expressed in a group of four digits, from 0001 to 2400, based on the 24–hour clock system. The first two digits represent the hour after midnight and the last two digits represent the minutes. For example, 1:37 p.m. civilian time is expressed as 1337 military time. The word “hours” will not be used in conjunction with military time. Civilian time is used when writing letters. Military time is used for memorandums.
This is an Army rule. Other organizations may follow different rules, which this page does not cover.
Frequently asked questions
What is the rule for reading a 24-hour time chart?
Find the four-digit time in the left column and read the AM/PM time beside it. For 1300 and later, the AM/PM hour is the first two digits minus 12, and the time is PM.
What is 1:00 PM in 24-hour time?
1:00 PM is 1300. The hour 1 plus 12 is 13, and the minutes stay 00.
How do I convert PM time to 24-hour time?
For 1:00 PM through 11:59 PM, add 12 to the hour and keep the minutes. For example, 7:30 PM becomes 1930 and 4:15 PM becomes 1615. The 12 o'clock hour is the exception: 12:01 PM through 12:59 PM stay 1201 to 1259, and 12:00 PM is 1200.
How do I convert 24-hour time to AM/PM?
From 0100 to 1159, the time is AM with the same hour. From 0000 to 0059, it is 12:00 AM to 12:59 AM. From 1200 to 1259, it is PM with the hour 12. From 1300 to 2359, subtract 12 from the hour and add PM.
What are 12:00 AM and 12:00 PM in 24-hour time?
This page shows 12:00 AM (midnight) as 0000 and 12:00 PM (noon) as 1200. 12:01 AM through 12:59 AM become 0001 to 0059, and 12:01 PM through 12:59 PM become 1201 to 1259. Army Regulation 25–50, paragraph 1–26, gives the range 0001 to 2400, so 0000 is outside it; showing midnight as 0000 is this page's own display choice, not taken from AR 25–50. The converter accepts 2400 and shows it as 12:00 AM.
What does Army Regulation 25–50 say about the word "hours" with a military time?
Paragraph 1–26 includes this sentence: The word “hours” will not be used in conjunction with military time. It is an Army regulation, and this page writes times without the word.
How many different times are there in a day?
The 24-hour clock on this page runs from 0000 to 2359, which is 1,440 different times to the minute. Each of them matches exactly one 12-hour time with AM or PM.
Can I print this chart?
Yes. The tables are set up to print: printing hides the notice and the related-page links, and the tables print with the rest of the page.
About this page
Reviewed November 2, 2026. The conversions on this page are arithmetic on a 24-hour clock, so they rest on no outside source. Every table row is generated by the same function the converter uses. The one statement about how time is written in correspondence comes from this official Army publication:
