December 2027Friday, December 31, 2027The 1st (January 1, 2028) is a Saturday, so payment moves to the Friday before. That Friday is the observed New Year holiday for federal offices, so VA could pay a day earlier; check VA before relying on it.

How the schedule works

Payment for a month is made on the first day of the next month. When that day is a Saturday or Sunday, the payment is made on the Friday before. If the 1st is New Year's Day or Labor Day, payment moves to the weekday before. No other federal holiday can fall on the 1st.

Some banks, such as USAA or Navy Federal, may post a deposit earlier than the scheduled date. That is the bank's practice, not VA's date, and you should not count on it. For the amount, see the VA disability pay chart.

VA pay date questions

When does VA disability get paid each month?

VA pays disability compensation for a month on the first day of the following month. January benefits, for example, are paid on February 1. If the 1st is a Saturday or Sunday, payment moves to the Friday before; if it is New Year’s Day or Labor Day, it moves to the last weekday before the holiday (38 U.S.C. 5120(e)).

Why did I get paid before the date on this schedule?

Some banks and credit unions post incoming federal deposits as soon as they receive the payment file, which can be a day or more early. That is the bank’s practice, not VA’s scheduled date.

What if my payment has not arrived?

Wait until the scheduled date has passed, check with your bank, and then contact VA. FedRateCalc cannot see or change your payment.
