Are Banks Open Today or Tomorrow? Federal Reserve Bank Holiday Checker
Federal Reserve Banks close on the holidays on the Federal Reserve schedule. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks stay open the Friday before, and when it falls on a Sunday they close the Monday after. Each bank sets its own branch hours, so check with your bank. Looking for the full list? See bank holidays 2026.

Are banks open tomorrow?
With no date picked, the checker shows a Today card and a Tomorrow card, both worked out from the date in New York. Read the Tomorrow card the same way as the Today card: “Federal Reserve Banks are closed for” a holiday means tomorrow is on the Federal Reserve schedule, and “Federal Reserve Banks are open” means the schedule lists no holiday for that date. Your own bank sets its own branch hours.
When a Weekend card names a holiday, the Saturday and Sunday rule in the next section applies: a holiday on a Saturday leaves Federal Reserve Banks open the Friday before, and a holiday on a Sunday closes them the Monday after. Pick a date to check any other day.
How the Federal Reserve holiday schedule works
The Federal Reserve Financial Services page lists a FedCash holiday schedule and a separate FedACH holiday schedule, and the Board of Governors publishes its own K.8 list. They cover Federal Reserve Banks and Branches, which is not the same as the hours of your own bank. The FedCash schedule explains weekend holidays this way:
“For holidays falling on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be open the preceding Friday.”
“For holidays falling on Sunday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be closed the following Monday.”
The Board of Governors keeps a slightly different calendar on Saturday holidays:
“For holidays falling on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be open the preceding Friday; however, the Board of Governors will be closed. For holidays falling on Sunday, all Federal Reserve offices will be closed the following Monday.”
“* Saturday - the Federal Reserve Banks are open, but the Board of Governors is closed on July 3, 2026, June 18, 2027, December 24, 2027, December 31, 2027, and November 10, 2028.”

The schedule does not say when a particular paycheck, refund or transfer is credited to an account, and this page makes no promise about it. Ask your employer or your bank about a specific deposit. For Veterans Day, see our Veterans Day 2026 page, which also covers what else is open that day. When we checked on November 1, 2026, the page listed FedACH times for 2026 only.

Holidays that are not bank holidays
The Federal Reserve schedule does not list these days, so they are not Reserve Bank holidays. Your own bank sets its hours.
- Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving: Friday, November 27, 2026, and Friday, November 26, 2027. Is Black Friday a federal holiday?
- Christmas Eve: Thursday, December 24, 2026. In 2027 Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, and the Federal Reserve Board's K.8 footnote lists Friday, December 24, 2027 among the Fridays when Federal Reserve Banks are open. Is Christmas Eve a federal holiday?
- New Year's Eve: Thursday, December 31, 2026. In 2027 New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, and the K.8 footnote lists Friday, December 31, 2027 among the Fridays when Federal Reserve Banks are open.
- Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Is Election Day a federal holiday?
Bank holidays, federal holidays and stock market holidays
The three calendars overlap but differ. Federal holidays are the days federal agencies close (see federal holidays 2026 and federal holidays 2027). The stock market has its own list on the stock market holidays page. A few 2026 dates show the difference:
| Date | Federal Reserve Banks | Stock market (NYSE, Nasdaq) |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, October 12, 2026 | Closed (Columbus Day) | Open |
| Friday, April 3, 2026 | Open | Closed (Good Friday) |
| Friday, July 3, 2026 | Open | Closed (Independence Day) |
| Friday, November 27, 2026 | Open | Open, closes at 1:00 p.m. ET |

Bank holiday questions
Is today a bank holiday?
The checker at the top of this page shows whether today is a Federal Reserve Bank holiday, using today’s date in New York. Federal Reserve Banks are closed on the holidays on the Federal Reserve schedule; the full year list is on our bank holiday schedule page. Are banks open tomorrow?
The checker at the top of this page shows a Tomorrow card next to the Today card, using the date in New York. A card that reads “Federal Reserve Banks are closed” means tomorrow is a Federal Reserve Bank holiday; when a Weekend card names a holiday, the Saturday and Sunday rule on this page applies. Your bank sets its own branch hours, so check with your bank.
Are banks open on Veterans Day?
Federal Reserve Banks are closed on Veterans Day: Wednesday, November 11, 2026, and Thursday, November 11, 2027. FedACH processing for 2026 ends Nov. 10, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes Nov. 11, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET*. The Federal Reserve’s footnote to that column reads: “*Third file delivery begins at 8:15 p.m. ET”. Your bank sets its own branch hours, so check with your bank.

Federal Reserve Banks are closed on Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 26, 2026, and Thursday, November 25, 2027. FedACH processing for 2026 ends Nov. 25, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes Nov. 26, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET*. The Federal Reserve’s footnote to that column reads: “*Third file delivery begins at 8:15 p.m. ET”. Your bank sets its own branch hours, so check with your bank.
Are banks open on Christmas Eve?
The Federal Reserve schedule does not list Christmas Eve, so Thursday, December 24, 2026 is not a Reserve Bank holiday. In 2027 Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, so Federal Reserve Banks are open the preceding Friday, December 24, 2027. Your bank sets its own branch hours, so check with your bank.
Are banks open on Saturday?
Branch hours on Saturday are set by each bank, so check with your bank. To see how a holiday that falls on a Saturday is handled, check the date in the checker above.
What happens to direct deposit on a bank holiday?
The Federal Reserve schedule does not say when a particular paycheck or deposit is credited, and neither does this page. It shows when FedACH processing pauses for each 2026 holiday, for example Veterans Day: processing ends Nov. 10, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes Nov. 11, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET*. The Federal Reserve’s footnote to that column reads: “*Third file delivery begins at 8:15 p.m. ET”. Ask your employer or your bank about a specific deposit.
Is Juneteenth a bank holiday?
Yes, for Federal Reserve Banks: Juneteenth National Independence Day is on the schedule, and Federal Reserve Banks are closed on Friday, June 19, 2026. FedACH processing for 2026 ends June 18, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes June 21, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET*. The Federal Reserve’s footnote to that column reads: “*Third file delivery begins at 8:15 p.m. ET”. In 2027 June 19 falls on a Saturday (Saturday, June 19, 2027), so Federal Reserve Banks are open the preceding Friday, June 18, 2027.
