What this release measures

The PCE price index measures price changes for goods and services purchased by, or on behalf of, U.S. households. BEA publishes it inside the monthly Personal Income and Outlays report.

The release includes headline and core PCE inflation as well as personal income, spending, disposable income, and saving. The broader report helps connect inflation with consumer demand.

Why the Federal Reserve watches it

The Federal Reserve defines price stability as 2% inflation over the longer run, measured by the annual change in the PCE price index.

PCE and CPI are related but not interchangeable. Coverage, category weights, and formulas differ, so the Fed reviews both plus wages, expectations, and other price data.

How to read the schedule

  • Every 2026 date and 8:30 AM ET publication time in the table comes from BEA’s official release schedule and published 2026 release-date table.
  • The February through April timing reflects dates rescheduled after the October–November 2025 government shutdown.
  • “Period covered” identifies the month measured by the release, not the publication month.
  • BEA can revise estimates and release dates; use the linked official schedule for time-sensitive decisions.
