Percent change between two prices
Enter an earlier share price and a later one for the same fund. The result is how much the share price moved, which is the fund’s return over that stretch before any contributions you made.
How to read TSP share prices
TSP’s price file starts on May 31, 2003, when the G, F, C, S and I Funds were all set to a share price of $10.00. The funds themselves are older: the G Fund began in 1987, the F and C Funds in 1988 and the S and I Funds in 2001, so prices from before 2003 are not in this file. The L Funds appear when TSP started publishing them, from 2005 to 2025, and an L Fund’s price moves as TSP shifts its mix of the five individual funds over time.
A higher share price does not mean a fund is expensive. What matters is the change in price between two dates. Compare prices for the same fund only, and keep in mind that TSP share prices are net of fund expenses.

TSP share price questions
What is a TSP share price?
A share price is what one share of a TSP fund is worth. TSP divides a fund’s net assets by its number of shares each business day. Your balance in a fund is the number of shares you own times that fund’s share price. Contributions buy shares at the day’s price, and earnings change the price rather than the number of shares.
How do I calculate my TSP balance from share prices?
Multiply the shares you hold in each fund by that fund’s share price for the same date, then add the funds together. My Account at tsp.gov shows your share counts. Use the price-on-a-date lookup on this page to get a price for any date since 2003, and the percent-change tool to compare two prices.
Why does the G Fund share price never drop?
The G Fund holds special Treasury securities whose value does not fluctuate, and it earns interest at a rate that resets every month, so its share price rises a little each day. TSP says G Fund money carries no risk to principal. The other funds hold stocks or bonds, so their prices can fall as well as rise.
When do TSP share prices update?
TSP calculates share prices after the markets close each business day (see TSP’s share price page). There are no prices for weekends or federal/market holidays, so a lookup for one of those dates returns the previous trading day’s price. This page is not live: it shows the prices in the file it was last refreshed from, through October 23, 2026.
Where does the data on this page come from?
Every price comes from TSP’s own published share price file on tsp.gov, shown unmodified with four decimals and with no estimating or filling in. The file starts May 31, 2003, even though the funds began earlier (G Fund 1987, F and C Funds 1988, S and I Funds 2001). For anything that matters, confirm on tsp.gov or in My Account.
Do share price changes match TSP’s published returns?
A share price is a level in dollars; a return is the percent change in that level over a period, and TSP’s returns and share prices are both net of fund expenses. We compared month-end price changes with TSP’s official monthly returns, and they generally match to rounding. Known exceptions: the first month (August 2005) of L Income, L 2030 and L 2040, which TSP measures from August 1, 2005 rather than the July 29 base price, and the F Fund in March 2023, where the price change is 2.54% and TSP reports 2.55%.
