TSP funds questions

What funds does the TSP offer?

TSP has five individual funds, the G, F, C, S and I Funds, and eleven Lifecycle (L) Funds: L Income and ten target-date funds from L 2030 to L 2075. Each L Fund is a mix of the five individual funds.

What is the difference between the individual funds and the L Funds?

An individual fund holds one kind of investment: special Treasury securities (G), U.S. bonds (F), large U.S. stocks (C), small and mid-size U.S. stocks (S) or stocks outside the U.S. (I). An L Fund blends all five, rebalances every trading day and moves toward the G and F Funds as its target date approaches. TSP says an L Fund is designed so you can invest your entire portfolio in it.

Which TSP fund has the lowest expense ratio?

Every TSP fund costs very little. In TSP’s expense ratios as of December 31, 2025, the table above shows the lowest total at 0.034% (G Fund) and the highest at 0.051% (S Fund). TSP publishes expense ratios once a year.

When does an L Fund change its mix?

TSP resets the target allocations of the L Funds each quarter (January, April, July and October) and rebalances daily in between. Each L Fund follows a published glide path and, in July of its target year, reaches the L Income mix and rolls into the L Income Fund. TSP says L Income generally keeps the same target allocation; its published data still shifts a little each quarter through July 2028.

Share prices come from TSP’s share price history file and returns from TSP’s monthly returns file; both are shown unmodified, with their dates. Fund descriptions, expense ratios and allocations were read from tsp.gov on the date in the page header. Confirm anything that matters on tsp.gov.
