Substitute days: the rule, in the source’s words
Under the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 (version as at 28 October 2026), and as the official sources word it:
“When New Year’s Day, Anzac Day, or Christmas Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday the next following Monday is also a public holiday and bank holiday. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday the next following Monday is also a public holiday and bank holiday. When Boxing Day falls on a Sunday or Monday the next following Tuesday is also a public holiday and bank holiday.”
“Australia Day (26th January or, when that day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the first Monday following the 26th January).”
King’s Birthday: some regional areas use another date
The Western Australian Government’s page lists Monday 27 September 2027 for the rest of the state.
“Some regional areas in WA will hold the King's Birthday 2027 public holiday on an alternative date to coincide with a significant date or event for that area. The dates for 2027 will be published when known.”
“In these regional areas, the alternative public holiday is observed instead of the public holiday observed in the rest of WA. The date on which the public holiday is observed in the rest of WA is not a public holiday in these regions.”
“Celebration Day for the Anniversary of the Birthday of the Reigning Sovereign (day to be appointed for each year by proclamation published in the Government Gazette at least 3 weeks before the day so appointed).”
Easter Saturday is not in the 2027 list
The page’s table for 2026 and 2027 lists Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Easter Saturday appears only in the table for 2028 and 2029, with this note:
“* New public holidays from 2028.”
Changes from 2028
The 2027 dates in the table are not affected.
“The Public and Bank Holiday Amendment Act 2026 has made changes to WA’s public holiday schedule. These changes will commence in 2028.”
“Labour Day will move to the second Monday in March (except during State Election years, when it will be held on the third Monday in March); WA Day will move to the second Monday in November; the King’s Birthday public holiday will be moved to the second Monday in June; Easter Saturday will be a public holiday; and Show Day will be a new public holiday to be set by proclamation to coincide with the first Monday of the September/October school holidays.”
