What Time Does USPS Deliver?

USPS does not give a delivery time for a specific address. In its FAQ “Delayed mail and packages?”, USPS says all deliveries should be made by 5:00 p.m. local time Monday through Saturday. The same article says delivery times are not guaranteed, but its delivery standards chart lists Priority Mail Express® as guaranteed, and that unusual circumstances can cause deliveries to be made after that time.

When we checked on November 4, 2026, the USPS pages on this page carried the wording quoted here. USPS is the authority on its own services.

What USPS says about delivery times

The USPS FAQ “Delayed mail and packages?” says:

“We do not have the ability to find out when a carrier or delivery person will arrive at a specific location. The volume of mail fluctuates daily; therefore, delivery times are not guaranteed. All deliveries should be made by 5:00 p.m. local time Monday through Saturday. Unusual circumstances (such as traffic, staffing fluctuations, severe weather, natural disaster, changes in carrier route, etc.) can cause deliveries to be made after this time.”

Priority Mail Express

USPS words the Priority Mail Express® delivery time differently. The USPS article marks the money-back guarantee with an asterisk and lists exceptions to the money-back guarantee policy.

Informed Delivery and tracking

The USPS Delayed mail and packages? article does not give an earliest or morning delivery time. USPS describes tools that show mail and packages scheduled to arrive, and whether mail has been delivered.

“Get Daily Digest emails that preview your mail and packages scheduled to arrive soon.”
USPS: Informed Delivery
“Know when your mail has been delivered: Go to your Informed Delivery settings and opt-in to free Mail Delivery Notification emails.”
USPS: Informed Delivery
“Enter up to 35 tracking numbers separated by commas and click 'Track.' The most recent tracking status of your mailpiece(s) should appear.”
