Where Royal Mail and GOV.UK differ

Royal Mail publishes its own table, so it can differ from GOV.UK's list. These are differences for Scotland in 2026, with Royal Mail's table as archived on 3 November 2026:

  • GOV.UK lists St Andrew’s Day on Monday 30 November 2026; Royal Mail’s table has no row for that date.
  • GOV.UK lists the Summer bank holiday on Monday 3 August 2026; Royal Mail’s table lists the Summer Bank Holiday on Monday 31 August 2026.
  • Royal Mail’s table has a row for Easter Monday on Monday 6 April 2026; GOV.UK’s Scotland list has no Easter Monday in 2026.

Royal Mail also lists dates GOV.UK does not, such as Saturday 26 December 2026 (Boxing Day) and local holidays by postcode area. The checker shows both and does not pick one.

Frequently asked questions

Is Royal Mail delivering today?

The checker looks the date up in Royal Mail’s 2026 holiday table (Service Update page, archived on 3 November 2026) and shows GOV.UK’s bank holiday status beside it. Royal Mail’s own live Service Update page is the daily authority.

Is there post on a bank holiday?

Royal Mail’s Service Update page, as archived on 3 November 2026, says: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on public or local holidays. (Please note: Local holidays are subject to change).” Its 2026 tables mark Christmas Day and the Boxing Day substitute day “No collections or deliveries” in all three regions.

Why can Royal Mail’s table differ from the GOV.UK bank holiday list?

Royal Mail publishes its own table. For Scotland, GOV.UK lists St Andrew’s Day on Monday 30 November 2026, while Royal Mail’s Service Update page, as archived on 3 November 2026, has no row for that date. The checker shows both and does not pick one.

Does the checker cover 2027?

No Royal Mail holiday table for 2027 appeared on the Service Update page as archived on 3 November 2026. For 2027 dates the checker shows GOV.UK’s bank holiday status and Royal Mail’s general sentence about public and local holidays, not a Royal Mail service answer.

Do Scottish local holidays affect post?

Royal Mail’s Service Update page, as archived on 3 November 2026, lists local holidays by postcode area in its Scotland 2026 table, for example “No collections or deliveries in the TD9 postcode area.” The checker shows every row for the date, because the rows apply only to the postcode areas Royal Mail names.

Are the Good Friday rows the same in every region?

No. Royal Mail’s Service Update page, as archived on 3 November 2026, gives “No collections or deliveries - Except in TD15” for England and Wales, “No collections or deliveries” for Northern Ireland and “Normal collections and deliveries.” for Scotland on Friday 3 April 2026.
