What SSA says about holiday closings
SSA's Holiday Closings of Social Security Offices page says:
“All Social Security offices will be closed on the following federal holidays.”
These are the dates SSA printed on that page, in its own wording:

SSA's page prints no year; the weekdays match 2026. In the Internet Archive capture of October 9, 2026 (the latest available when we checked on November 4, 2026), SSA's holiday closings page listed 2026 dates only. For 2027 dates the checker applies SSA's rule to the observed days on OPM's federal holiday list. For every 2027 date, see federal holidays 2027 or is today a federal holiday.
Phone hours, and an older statement of field office hours
SSA's news release of December 2, 2019 gave typical field office hours:
“Beginning on January 8, 2020, offices will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, with typical field office hours from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.”
That release is more than six years old. SSA's Field Office Locator lists hours for each office; we could not read them in the archived copy. The locator says:
“Skip the line—make an appointment before visiting an office.”
For phone service, SSA's phone page says:
“You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.”
“Our automated telephone services are available 24 hours a day and do not require you to wait to speak with a representative.”
Local closings

Is the Social Security office open on Veterans Day?
No. SSA's Holiday Closings of Social Security Offices page lists Veterans Day as a federal holiday on which all its offices close: Wednesday, November 11, 2026. For 2027, OPM's federal holiday list shows Thursday, November 11, 2027.
What are Social Security office hours?
SSA's Field Office Locator lists hours for each office; we could not read them in the archived copy. The only general statement we found is SSA's December 2, 2019 news release (more than six years old): “Beginning on January 8, 2020, offices will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, with typical field office hours from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.” Confirm with the locator or SSA's phone line.
What are the Social Security phone hours?

SSA's Field Office Locator has an “Office closings and emergencies” section about whether an office is “closed temporarily, due to construction or another event.” FedRateCalc does not report local office closings; the federal holiday check is a calendar check only.
