How this calculator works

Measure the finished length and width in feet, then multiply by depth after converting inches to feet. This produces cubic feet before any allowance.

The calculator divides cubic feet by 27 for cubic yards and multiplies the waste-adjusted volume by the editable supplier density for US short tons. Density is not assumed to be universal.

Cost is estimated as US short tons times the entered price plus delivery. Check the quoted product, delivery zone, minimum load, and whether the supplier rounds its order quantity.

Worked example

A 10 ft × 12 ft area at 4 in deep is 40.00 cu ft, or 1.481 cu yd, before waste. At 1.4 US short tons/cu yd it is about 2.07 short tons before waste.

Common questions

Why does the calculator ask for bulk density?

Gravel sold by weight varies in density by stone size, source, and moisture. Enter the supplier’s stated tons per cubic yard.

Should I add waste?

Use a project-specific allowance for uneven subgrade, spillage, and shaping. The result shows the base volume separately.
