How the criteria are written

DC 7528 is the code for "Malignant neoplasms of the genitourinary system" and the CFR does not name prostate cancer in it. VA's public Disability Benefits Questionnaire for this area is titled "Male Reproductive Organ Conditions (Including Prostate Cancer)". A separate code, DC 7527, covers prostate gland injuries, infections, hypertrophy, postoperative residuals and bladder outlet obstruction.

DC 7528 has one level, 100%. The note under it says the 100 percent rating continues after surgical, X-ray, antineoplastic chemotherapy or other therapeutic procedures end, with a mandatory VA examination at the expiration of six months, and that any change in evaluation is subject to § 3.105(e).

The note says what happens next: "If there has been no local reoccurrence or metastasis, rate on residuals as voiding dysfunction or renal dysfunction, whichever is predominant." The voiding and renal dysfunction criteria are separate CFR provisions and are not reproduced on this page.

CFR Appendix A dates the current criterion of DC 7528 November 14, 2021, the effective date of the 2021 genitourinary final rule (86 FR 54081).

VA publishes Disability Benefits Questionnaires for this area (benefits.va.gov): Male Reproductive Organ Conditions (Including Prostate Cancer) DBQ.
